SHUMBA VALLEY GUEST FARM - Focussed on Family FUN!

Nestled in the farmlands of the Brandwater basin near Clarens in the Eastern Free State, Shumba Valley offers lovers of the great outdoors a fantastic variety of adventures. Set in spectacular mountains with the Rooiberg on the west side, the Witteberg on the north and the majestic Malutis, the panoramic view across our north eastern and southern side, the landscape is awesome. We offer many other activities to compliment our extreme adventures. Our mission is to ensure that all family members can have as much fun as possible. Holidays are for fun, relaxation, variety and comfort. We at Shumba make sure you have the “cherry on the top” too, for we love to spoil our guests. Personal service and attention to your needs is our speciality.

On the farm we offer a variety of accommodation. Top class comfort in our two luxury self-catering cottages. One 8 sleeper and one 6 sleeper. Two comfortable self-catering caravans that are fully equipped, a small campsite catering for 20 people, and our homely, comfortable B&B accomodation for 16 people. Inside the main lodge is a comfortable lounge with DSTV, a lovely sunny dining room and a "conversation piece" pub. The garden is a haven for bird life and a relaxing spot to while away the day with a good book. This is home to a very unique herd of horses, specially trained to nurture and delight even the most fearful of riders. The horses are calm and relaxed with people. They enjoy watching the aircraft fly in, and land, delight in the thrills and spills of the quadding and off road activity, but prefer to offer wonderful rides for those who want to be with them!Fishing on the farm and nearby is great in the summer months. Bream, bass, trout, and yellows can be caught, along with the inevitable barble!

The area is a delight for photographers and artists. Enquire about our wonderful mid-week artists safaris. Our
photographic weekends are professionally organised together with one of SA's leading photographic magazines. These are great fun and very informative.Our school children group excursions are special encounters with horses and the environment, packed with fun while learning. The unique itinerary is designed to ensure that each scholar leaves the farm well informed and with a deep desire to ensure the longevity of the planet. Maximum of 30 and a minimum of 10 scholars at a time. Scholars from 8 - 16 years are welcome.

QUAD AND OFF ROAD TRIPS AND SAFARIS

One of our specialities. Carefully planned excursions take bikers on trails with loads of variety. Some trips are for beginners and others for those who like to be challenged. And we can combine the trail for the whole family. We offer both guided and unguided trips. Day trips range from 30km to 150km. Our quadding safaris range from 2 nights to 6 nights away from the farm in the mountains, with rustic accomodation, and tons of fun!Our snow quad trips into Lesotho are spectacular. One can book to participate with a large group on an annual family excursion in June or one can book on smaller, more intimate excursions, where a maximum of 20 riders are given the opportunity to spend more time with the village people off the beaten track. Shumba offers a number of specialised trips where the riding is exclusive to Shumba visitors only.All quadding excursions done with Shumba are for residents only and are planned to limit environmental pollution wherever possible. Quad hire is for residents only. Our farm track is carefully laid out for all to use and enjoy with plenty of challenges. Own quads and off road bikes welcome. This is 4x4 and quadding paradise. The trails are self-drive.

HORSE RIDING AND SAFARIS

Take your mind off the hustle and bustle of city life and ride off into the sunset! Horse riding is one of the best mediums of relaxation, especially when our horses love giving you this relaxation. Our horses are trained to offer riders of all levels a wonderful, safe and comfortable ride in the mountains, along rivers and over rolling farmlands. All our horses are in wonderful condition, and are a special part of the Shumba Valley Family, anda are trained to be obedient with all levels of riders. Our saddles are general purpose and the equipment of the highest quality. Book for hour rides, champagne breakfast rides, sunset rides, all day rides, half-day rides or 2-10 day riding safaris. We also offer moonlight rides and night walks for riders and non-riders. The rides are therapeutic and offer that human-horse bond. Ski Safari's are also available seasonally!

MICROLIGHTING

Our airstrips are picturesque and 650metres in length. The Ficksburg strip is close by and is a lovely tarmac strip about 2km long and with all the modern necessities. Once landed, pilots and crew are shown to their accomodation just metres away from their parked aircraft. This offers pilots a unique opportunity of making the most of their flying time.
In the spring, a flight over the Rooiberg at 6:30am is a memorable experience. A flight of 2hours, back for breakfast, a day of relaxing and exploring the area, another evening flight, and then a wonderful braai under the stars, chattin to fellow pilots and crew - this is living!Corporate packages, small company functions and unusual birthday or anniversary packages are also offered. Each one can be tailor made for your requirements.
