Riemvasmaak lies in the Molopo River, about 12km North East of its confluence with the Orange River and close to the Augrabies Falls National Park. According to local folklore, the name can be traced to an ancient Damara who suffered from rheumatism and wanted to reach a certain mineral spring along the course of the Molopo River. To reach the deep gorge of the river, he tied together a number of thong to lower himself down the rocky walls of the ravine to the spring below. The Khoe name for Riemvasmaak is "Konkaib" which fell into disuse when the local people were forced to speak Afrikaans in preference to their own language.

Tho the west of the valley lies 500 square kilometers of sparsely vegetated land occupied mainly by Damara and Koranna of the Khoe tribes. These hardy people used the land to graze their goats and sheep, as their forefathers had done for ages.

The Kalahari Desert is a large to semi-arid sandy area in Southern Africa extending 900 per square kilometer (362,500 sq. mi.), covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa, as semi-desert, with huge tracts of excellent grazing after good rains. The Kalahari Desert is the southern part of Africa, and the geography is a portion of desert and a plateau. The Kalahari supports some animals and plants because most of it is not true desert. There are small amounts of rainfall and the summer temperature is very high. It usually receives 3-7 1/2 inches of rain per year. The surrounding Kalahari Basin covers over 2.5 million per square kilometer extending further into Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, and encroaching into parts of Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The only permanent river, the Okavango, flows into a delta in the North West, forming marshes that are rich in wildlife. Ancient dry riverbeds - called pools of water during the rainy season. Previously havens for wild animals from elephant to giraffe, and for predators such as lion and cheetah, the riverbeds are now mostly grazing spots, though leopard or cheetah can still be found.

KAKAMAS DAY TOUR - R 395 PER PERSON
Kakamas became a proper settlement in 1898 under the auspices of the Dutch Reformed Church and soon developed into an agricultural centre. It became a municipality in 1954. Although hotly debated, the town's name originates form a Koranna word meaning "poor pasture" and "vicious, chargin ox". It was here that the Koranna were stormed by a fierce buffalo cow as they were driving their cattle through the drift. Kakamas played a role in the World War I, when South Africa joined forces with Britain against the Germans, and invaded German South West Africa from the town. Today however, Kakamas is a peaceful town graced with vineyards, cotton and lucerne fields.

Liquid360 offers a true Kakamas Guided Tour. Tour includes: Visit the first Hydro Transformator building in South Africa, Guides, Farmstalls, Neus Weir, German Graves, Grape Pack house, Local Deli, Wine Farm, Waterwheels, Transport and Lunch.

AUGRABIES DAY TOUR - R 395 PER PERSON
The Nama people lived in the area for centuries and managed to adapt to its harsh conditions. 'Aukoerebies' is a Khoi name for 'the place of the Great Noise', referring to the Orange River, which thunders its way downwards for 60 metres in a spectacular waterfall. Such names as Moon Rock, Ararat and Echo Corner describe this picturesque and rocky region, characterized by the 18km deep abyss of the Orange River Gorge and craggy outcrops dominating the scrub-dotted plains. Klipspringer and Kokerboom (quiver trees) stand in stark silhouette against the African sky, silent sentinels in a strangely unique environment where only those who can adapt ultimately survive. The 28 000 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River provide a sanctuary to a diverse species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to Springbok and Gemsbok.

Liquid 360 Adventures offers a unique Augrabies Falls Tour.
Tour includes: Visit the Augrabies Falls National Park, Dassie Trail Nature Walk, Guides, Entry to the Park, Transport, Look-out points descriptions and Lunch.

WINE TASTING VINEYARD TOUR - R 125 PER PERSON

We offer a true relaxed but adventurous wine tasting experience at one of the local and private wine cellars. The farmer and/or winemaker will take you through the process of this unique wine making. To end this sundowner venture off, enjoy the famous old Hanepoot with the sun making colours in the background. Afterwords you can buy wines from the local Wine Deli.
Trips include: Wine tasting, qualified guide and transport to and back from the wine farm.
